Description
Oregano is a perennial and can reach a height of 20 in. The reddish-coloured stem tends to have few branches or thorns. The oval-shaped leaves (1 in by 2 inches) have short stalks which are approximately 1 inch long. The leaves are occasionally serrated. Its small flowers are bunched closely together and form flat loose clusters. The plant’s aroma varies depending on where it is cultivated: the oregano grown in southern Italy (widely used as seasoning), has a much stronger aroma than the oregano grown in northern Italy.
Sowing Period
During the spring in open field or in seedbeds from July to August for transplanting in October-November.
